Taking the guesswork out of diaper styles & types.......
HELP!! I'M SO OVERWHELMED WITH ALL THE INFO AND CHOICES!!!

FIRST YOU REALIZE THERE ARE ALTERNATIVES TO DISPOSABLE DIAPERS:) Then you realize there are LOTS of options. Finally you get overwhelmed with all the different styles & types & brands and don't know where to start and what to buy:( Cloth diapers WILL save you a tremendous amount of money over your child's cloth diapering years but there IS that initial up front investment. Jumping into cloth diapers can be a bit scary! What if I hate cloth diapers? What if my baby/child hates them? What if I buy the wrong style for my baby? What if I buy the wrong type for my family's lifestyle? HAVE NO FEAR!! I'm here to tell you that cloth diapering is a wonderful choice for any family regardless of your budget or lifestyle. Anyone can do it and everyone can love itBut what about all those craigslist ads from parents selling their cloth diaper stash because they bought them with every intention of using them and ended up going with disposables? There's many reasons I believe that happens: 1) They weren't shown how to properly use or care for them. 2) New first time parents can quickly become overwhelmed. Although cloth diapering DOES NOT have to be overwhelming, it CAN be for those parents without anyone supporting them in this endeavor. 3) They purchased the wrong style or type for their lifestyle. 4) Parents with one partner who isn't on board with cloth diapering can have a difficult time persevering amongst the complaining or disposables the partner insists upon keeping around and using. To all of this I want to ask 1 question:

IF GAP KIDS CAME OUT WITH A LINE OF DISPOSABLE CLOTHING TODAY, WOULD WE ALL RUSH OUT TO PURCHASE A NEW WARDROBE FOR OUR CHILD(REN)?

The answer is a resounding NO!!!!  Why? First, Gap would be shunned for the negative affect this would have on our environment. They would lose all credibility as a quality name brand line of clothing. Second, who would buy paper clothing for their children? How uncomfortable would that be? Third, even if we didn't care about comfort, our kids would!! How do we convince our kids paper clothing is so easy and convenient that they should wear it? Lastly, in today's economy we are all looking for ways to lower our costs and paper clothing would do anything but lower our costs. So why then, do many parent's today continue to purchase disposable diapers? It wasn't until the 1970's that disposable diapers became readily available but once they became available, we quickly adapted and put cloth diapers "behind" us. Today, we are realizing the health risks associated with disposable diapers, the environmental impact, and the costs associated with them. It's time to take another look at cloth diapers!! But, again I say, HAVE NO FEAR!! Modern cloth diapers are NOT what our mothers and grandmothers used. Modern cloth diapers have come a long way baby! It's time to take1 step back and 2 steps forward, and realize that cloth diapers are more comfortable and healthier for your baby/child, healthier for the environment, and worth the time and effort to find a cloth diapering system that works for you.

FLATS - Hard to find baby flat diapers are Made of 100% UNBLEACHED birdseye weave cotton and sewn to dimensions of 27x27 inches. These are the orignal cloth nappy our great grand mothers used. These can be folded and closed with pins or a snappi or simply folded and laid inside a diaper cover.  They also make great pocket diaper inserts and doublers. Easy to clean and line dry. Even in humid climates. Because of the quick and easy drying, these are also a popular option for international relief programs and orphanges. These diapers are also popular for a variety of other uses such as house cleaning, optical, screen and window cleaning and for applying and removing facials at spas and at home. Flats need to be used inside a cover, shell, or wrap.

PREFOLDS - Prefolds came about in the 1950's when Mrs. Hellerman, the owner of a diaper service in Milwaukee, went to the Kendall Company which made CurityA brand diapers, with a new invention.  It was a fold that put extra cotton layers in the center of the diaper and made it the right size for most babies.  The fold was sewn shut, and the prefold diaper was born.  Prefolds are folded into thirds, wrapped around your baby, and secured with a diaper pin or snappi or simply laid inside of a diaper cover.  A waterproof cover/shell/wrap must be put over the prefold.

Fitted Diapers -  Fitted diapers are shaped like disposables and do NOT require pins or snappis.  Elastic at the waist and sometimes the back hold in just about all messes.  They require a shell, wrap, or cover.  You can find them specifically sized, one size fits all, and with velcro or snap closures.  Still fairly economical as only 1 cover/shell/wrap is needed for every 3-4 fitteds.

Pocket Diapers (AI2) - Pocket diapers AI2's (all in two's) function just like a disposable but go in the diaper pail to wash and reuse, rather than in the garbage can.  Inserts are stuffed into a pocket or sleeve.  More or less inserts can be used as needed.  The inside linings make clean-up easier and they are daddy, grandparent, and daycare friendly.  They also have high resale value.  OS (one size fits all) pocket diapers can even be a very economical choice as most will fit your baby from birth till they no longer need to wear diapers and be ready for the next baby/child that needs them.

Best Bottoms -  The Best Bottoms diapering system is not a pocket diaper, not an all in one (AI0), not a fitted, and not a prefold.  Best Bottoms are a OS (one size fits all) shell with snap in contoured inserts that come in small, medium, and large, for the perfect fit.  There's no folding, pinning, or need for snappi's.  There's no stuffing inserts either.  Just snap in...and snap out!!  Snap in inserts are very versatile and come in hemp/cotton regular, hemp/cotton overnight, stay dry fleece topped regular, micro overnight, and stay dry fleece doublers.  The shells can be reused until soiled making this an extremely economical, yet user friendly diapering system. Best Bottoms shells can also be used with any other prefold or insert.
